Spike Recovery

The spike recovery was evaluated by spiking 3 levels of mouse/rat Prealbumin/Transthyretin into health mouse/rat serum sample. The un-spiked serum was used as blank in this experiment.
The recovery ranged from 81% to 120% with an overall mean recovery of 97%.

Serum/Plasma – Thirty samples from apparently healthy mice/rats were evaluated for the presence of Prealbumin/Transthyretin in this assay. No medical histories were available for the donors. n.d. = non-detectable. Samples measured below the sensitivity are considered to be non-detectable.

Background: Prealbumin/Transthyretin

Transthyretin (TTR), previously called thyroxin-binding prealbumin, is a 55 kDa homotetramer of 14-15 kDa monomers that is found in plasma. TTR is responsible for the transport of the thyroid hormone T4 and retinol binding protein (RBP). It slows renal clearance of T4 and RBP due to megalin-mediated re-uptake of TTR complexes in the renal tubules. TTR is also found in tissues including the brain. Numerous human polymorphisms have been associated with aggregates found in familial amyloidotic polyneuropathies (FAP). Mature human TTR shares 80% and 83% amino acid sequence identity with mouse and rat TTR, respectively.
